Visions (rainbow rose) is an animation showing the Photosynth of the artificially dyed “rainbow rose” which I found at Eastern Market here in Detroit. Photosynth is an online program which reconstructions objects digitally from uploaded images. It is a parallel, basic version of 3D, showing instead the layering of images and the interaction of planes.
Making use of these formal qualities, this animation navigates through a visual map of the Rainbow rose, zooming in and out, revealing and blurring different sides and creating a dream like vision of this already magical appearing rose. The layering of the images reflects the flower’s own petal structure, while the disjointed movements become a tool of abstraction. The result is an enlarged reconstruction in movement depicting a microscopic circular journey.
